The Pedagogy
SLIBM believes in developing an individual with strong fundamental and conceptual skills and capability, combined with a deep sense of responsibility towards others and the society and commitment the growth for all individuals. SLIBM emphasises that individuals should experience the simulated environment of the corporate world of decision making.
Accordingly, the learning process involves extensive classroom instructions, case analysis, and individual projects.
The classroom instruction is the primary vehicle of learning. It gives strong theoretical and conceptual inputs. The curriculum and the depth of coverage are similar to that of the best business schools.
Active interaction and participation of students are encouraged. The present developments in each of the specific areas are discussed, using articles from reputed, national and international journals.
At SLIBM, we strongly emphasize project work which involves extensive and in depth study of a specific topic involving research or field work.
Periodic presentations by individuals and groups are conducted. This also helps in enhancing communication skills.
The case method is extensively used for the student to experience the simulated environment of the corporate world and for developing decision making skills. The cases are carefully selected to be contemporaneous and illustrating the use of relevant principles and tools in a complex setting.
Continuous evaluation through assignments and quizzes help fine tune the concepts already learnt.
Evaluation
System
The Institute believes in the continuous evaluation of every student, as a measure of performance and also as a means for motivation. Evaluation is done through assignments, case studies, periodic quizzes, projects, and two examinations - a mid semester and an end semester exam. This contributes to continuous learning.
At the end of each semester, a student is awarded a letter grade for each subject, based on his/her performance. Letter grades range from A to D, A. Grade 'A' denotes superior performance, grade B denotes good performance, grade C denotes average performance , and grade D denotes below average performance.
A student who has not been evaluated fully, is given incomplete, I, grade. A student who has failed in a course is given grade F.
Grade points for each of the letter grades are given. A is equivalent to 4.0 points, B is equivalent to 3.0 points, C equivalent to 2.0 points, and D equivalent to 1.0 point. Suffix of (+) and (-) after the letter in a grade further differentiate the performance within the range of a particular letter grade. A student is required to maintain a minimum average grade point of 2.0.
